China's Mainland General Display Exports Continue to Grow, But at a Slower Pace
According to the latest data released by RUNTO, China's mainland general display export market continued to grow in the third quarter of 2024, but the growth rate slowed significantly compared to the first half of the year. Total exports reached 27.1 million units in the third quarter, up 2% year-on-year; export value reached 21.7 billion yuan, up 4% year-on-year.
While the export market remains in growth, the third quarter's growth rate is significantly narrower compared to the double-digit growth in the first half of the year, which will exert some drag on the full-year market. In fact, since the third quarter of last year, the volume of China's export market has been at a high level.
The report analyzes that the main driving force behind the export market growth in the third quarter comes from the continued rebound of global display market demand and technological advances and capacity expansion in China's mainland display manufacturing industry. North America, Western Europe, and Asia in particular have become the main growth points for China's mainland display exports.
North America remains the largest market for mainland display exports. Cumulative exports to North America in the first three quarters accounted for 29.2% of mainland total exports, reaching 22.44 million units, up 4% year-on-year; export value was approximately 19.2 billion yuan, up 9% year-on-year.
Western Europe is the second largest export market. Cumulative exports to Western Europe in the first three quarters accounted for 26.5% of mainland total exports, reaching approximately 20.33 million units, up 18% year-on-year; export value was approximately 19.5 billion yuan, up 30% year-on-year. Among them, export volumes to France and Italy both increased by over 100%. As the average display price in Western Europe is relatively high, Western Europe ranks first in terms of export value.
In addition, Asia has also become an important export market for China's mainland displays. Cumulative exports to Asia in the first three quarters accounted for 21.8% of mainland total exports, reaching approximately 16.77 million units, up 12% year-on-year; export value was approximately 10.7 billion yuan, up 25% year-on-year.
While China's mainland general display export market continues to grow, the slowdown in growth rate is worth noting. In the future, China's mainland display manufacturers need to continue to enhance product competitiveness and explore new markets to maintain their advantage in global competition. At the same time, they also need to pay attention to changes in the global economic situation and prepare to respond to market risks.
