Louis Bruce was born in Cleveland, Ohio, USA in 1943. Received a doctoral degree from Columbia University in New York, United States in 1969. Currently a professor at Columbia University in New York, USA.

Alexei Yekimov was born in 1945 in the former Soviet Union. In 1974, he obtained a doctoral degree from the Ioffe Institute of Physical Technology in St. Petersburg, Russia. He is a former chief scientist of the American Nanocrystalline Technology Company.
