Familiar routines and formulas: TSMC has been exempted from one year in the United States but complaints have been treated differently

Earlier, Korean chip manufacturers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix provided semiconductor equipment to China and received an indefinite extension exemption from the United States. At that time, the most concerned market was whether TSMC would also receive similar treatment.
In October 2022, while the United States further tightened its chip ban on China, it also gave some chip companies an opportunity. At that time, Samsung, SK Hynix, and TSMC were granted a one-year exemption period simultaneously.
On the 13th, TSMC stated that it had received an exemption from the United States, but it was not an indefinite exemption from two South Korean companies, but still only for one year.
TSMC, which is treated differently, has contributed the most in blocking and suppressing chip technology in China.
TSMC has followed suit with the United States, moving its factories to the United States to show loyalty. However, this time it has been treated differently, as reported by Taiwanese media, it is not as sour as before.
Whenever China achieves technological breakthroughs, Europe and America will open up the previously blocked technologies, and this time it is a familiar routine and formula.
However, there is a slight difference.
The success of the Huawei Mate60 series has left the United States puzzled, but at least it indicates that China has solved the manufacturing problem of 5nm chips.
This time, TSMC is exempted and mainly used for TSMC's expansion of production at its Nanjing factory. It is not 7nm, let alone 5nm, but a 28nm process chip.
Simply put, high-end chips are still prohibited, but mid to low end chips are open because they require the Chinese market to make money.
In chip sanctions, many semiconductor manufacturers and the United States are not aligned, for a simple reason because the Chinese market is too large and important.
Previously exempted from Samsung and SK Hynix, despite being unwilling to resist pressure from the United States, South Korean exports plummeted and South Korean semiconductor companies suffered widespread losses.
If Huawei continues to play like this, these semiconductor manufacturers who follow US requirements will fall first. South Korea cannot bear the consequences of the downfall of companies such as Samsung, and being exempted is to some extent a comfort from the US towards South Korea.
TSMC suffered a disaster.
At that time, they made the most efforts, had the most positive attitude, and acted the fastest on the chip ban, but the result was that the United States saw them as "second-class citizens" and could only say they deserved it.
