The overseas competition of express delivery enterprises is gradually escalating.

On October 17th, JD Express announced the upgrade of its Hong Kong and Macau express delivery services, opening multiple express operation centers in Hong Kong and Macau to optimize the entire process of self operation and picking. It provides local express delivery, Hong Kong and Macau mutual delivery, and door-to-door delivery services from Hong Kong and Macau to the mainland for Hong Kong and Macau users. Among them, Hong Kong local express delivery can achieve a maximum of 4 hours of delivery, and the night delivery time will also be extended to 22:00. In Macau, local express delivery will achieve the fastest morning delivery.

On the same day, Ma Wei, the head of JD Logistics' Hong Kong express delivery business, told First Financial that the current team size of JD Express in Hong Kong, including the express delivery team, exceeds hundreds of people. From the perspective of business upgrade time, the above person in charge stated that the e-commerce peak season is approaching, including the Double 11 and Christmas seasons, and hopes to provide better services.

A JD Logistics Hong Kong employee told First Financial that the JD Express Hong Kong team has been established for six months and has been in trial operation for several months before the business announcement. At present, JD Express has a total of 4 stations in Hong Kong, located in four areas: Sha Tin, Yuen Long, Kwun Tong, and Kwai Tsing. The business includes three aspects: B2B, B2C, and C2C. The employee stated that from the early operational situation, the growth of B-end customers is faster.

Since 2015, JD has successively laid out three Asia No.1 intelligent industrial parks in Guangzhou and Dongguan, and has hundreds of central warehouses, bonded warehouses, export warehouses, and direct mail warehouses in Hong Kong and Macao in southern China.

Express logistics expert Zhao Xiaomin stated that there are two main reasons why express companies are gradually expanding their overseas business. In terms of regulation, the management department has repeatedly called for express shipping plans. From the perspective of the development of express delivery companies, express logistics enterprises currently follow a model of domestic demand as the main source and external circulation, that is, domestic supply and demand, and further exploring markets abroad to achieve a "two legged approach". From the perspective of the overseas situation of express delivery companies, Zhao Xiaomin believes that if the local logistics network is relatively mature, capitalization of overseas companies is more labor-saving, and attention should be paid to local legal, religious, cultural and environmental issues. However, regardless of its overseas strategy, China remains the main battlefield for express delivery companies.

In April of this year, the National Postal Administration visited Guangdong to investigate the situation of express shipping. The research team pointed out that the focus of express shipping should be on strengthening capacity building around key links such as distribution, trunk transportation, customs clearance, warehousing, destination distribution, and information interconnection. The postal management department will continue to strengthen collaboration with relevant departments such as commerce and customs, seek practical solutions, achieve practical results, optimize the development environment, and support enterprises in building a high-level international mail and delivery logistics system based on their own actual situation.

From the perspective of the overseas layout of express delivery, Hong Kong is an important part of the competition among express delivery companies, and several express delivery companies have previously announced relevant layouts.

On October 10th, SF Express announced the upgrade of its Hong Kong consolidation service, providing a "door-to-door service throughout Hong Kong, the fastest daily delivery" service. According to SF Express's official website, packages placed on mainland online shopping platforms can be delivered to Hong Kong customers on the same day after they arrive at SF Express's consolidation warehouse and are closed before 10am; Packages that are combined after 10 o'clock can be delivered the next day.

On July 19th, Cainiao International announced the launch of the "next day delivery, late arrival must compensate" service in Hong Kong. Packages sent from mainland Cainiao container warehouses can be delivered to pick-up points or users in Hong Kong no later than the next day. Cainiao stated that if it is not delivered within the promised time limit, it will proactively compensate up to 60 yuan per order. As of now, Cainiao has 11 distribution centers, more than 750 Cainiao pick-up points, and a strongly controlled China Hong Kong Main Line and local self operated fleet in Hong Kong.

This upgrade of Hong Kong and Macao business is also a new attempt for JD Logistics' overseas business. JD told First Financial that it has also been continuously expanding its logistics and warehousing layout in Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America in recent times, with 20 intelligent logistics parks operating in Indonesia alone. JD has previously stated that the investment cost of overseas warehousing business will not be too high, and JD's mature warehousing and logistics technology can be directly applied, which not only has higher certainty but also effectively serves JD's global supply chain network.
