On October 14th, the "2023 Future Science Awards Week" jointly organized by the Future Science Awards and the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences opened in Hong Kong. In four days, nearly a hundred top scientists from around the world will gather together to discuss cutting-edge academic topics.
The Future Science Award was established in 2016 and is a folk science award jointly initiated by scientists and entrepreneurs, focusing on original basic scientific research. This year marks the first time that Future Science Awards Week has been held in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has multiple world-class research-oriented universities and an innovative environment that supports and rapidly develops. There have been 35 winners of the Future Science Awards so far, of which 5 are from Hong Kong. "Professor Lu Yuming, co chairman of the Program Committee of the 2023 Future Science Awards Week and President of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, said that the significance of hosting the Awards Week in Hong Kong is extraordinary. The Grand Prix advocates for 'promoting science and achieving the future', which utilizes the power of scientific knowledge and innovation to promote and shape a better tomorrow. We hope that the Grand Prix Week series of activities can ignite the curiosity of people of all ages, especially the next generation, and cultivate their support, love, and desire for the scientific industry
The Grand Prix Week series of activities lasts for 4 days and consists of the "Science Summit" from October 14th to 15th, the "2023 Annual Conference of the Asian Young Scientists Fund Project" on October 16th, the "Dialogue between Winners and Youth" on October 17th, and the "Award Ceremony". Nearly a hundred outstanding scientists from around the world participated.
As a major event on the first day of Grand Prix Week, the 2-day Science Summit opened at the Hong Kong Science Park. On the first day of the Science Summit, the focus was on three major topics: "Life Science Session - Transforming Paradigm Creation", "Computer Science Session - Artificial Intelligence", and "Plant Research for Future Agriculture". More than ten top scientists from around the world, including Nobel laureate in Chemistry Gregory Winter, Life Science Breakthrough Award winner Shankar Balasubramanian, and Future Science Award - Life Science Award winner Lu Yuming, were gathered, Share the basic research achievements of cutting-edge science and jointly explore academic innovation.
During the dialogue, guests exchanged and discussed topics such as "the scientific charm of plant research", "improving crop yield and disaster resistance", "interdisciplinary integration of AI and plant research", and "the impact of climate change on plant genes".
