Gas turbine generator sets are the power source of offshore oil and gas production platforms, known as the "heart" of the platform. Previously, the gas turbine generator units used in China's offshore oil and gas platforms had always relied on imports, facing problems such as long procurement cycles, high procurement prices, and difficult maintenance.

The 'Taihang 7' gas turbine is a 7-megawatt class light aviation modified gas turbine developed on the basis of the 'Taihang' aviation engine, which has broken through multiple key technologies and formed hundreds of new technologies, processes, standards, materials, and specifications. It has the characteristics of high power, fast start-up, low energy consumption, and easy maintenance, supporting the independent development of domestic gas turbines Shen Chunyan, Director of the Product Design Office of the R&D Center of China Aviation Engine Corporation, said.

Gao Shuang, Deputy General Manager of the Deepwater Engineering Construction Center of China National Offshore Oil Corporation Shenzhen Branch, stated that on the basis of fully realizing the independent manufacturing of core components, the "Taihang 7" gas turbine will have a cost reduction of about 15% compared to imported units, and the cost of equipment maintenance will also significantly decrease, providing a new path for the independent and controllable full chain of offshore oil and gas equipment and the development of offshore oil and gas field benefits.

The Lufeng 8-1 platform is equipped with two 'Taihang 7' gas turbines, one power grid management system, and three 35kW high-voltage transformers. Currently, the power system of the Lufeng 8-1 platform has been successfully integrated into the 'New Area' power grid of the Lufeng oilfield group, connected to the Lufeng 14-4 platform through a 6.3 kilometer long submarine cable, becoming the power core of the oilfield group and providing power for offshore oil exploration, The gas turbine generates over 5000 kilowatt hours of electricity per hour, equivalent to the daily electricity demand of 500 households, and can meet all production and living needs of an offshore oil and gas platform. Compared with the same power fuel generator set, it can reduce nearly 80000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
