Changtai Yangtze River Bridge Enters Key Paving Stage: World's Largest Span Cable-Stayed Bridge to Don "New Clothes"
On July 18th, the paving construction of the steel bridge deck of the main navigation channel of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge, the world's largest span cable-stayed bridge, constructed by the Jiangsu Provincial Communications Construction Bureau and participated in by the China Communications Second Harbor Engineering Bureau, was fully launched, marking a new stage of crucial steel bridge deck asphalt paving construction for the project. This significant project milestone, closely following the high-precision closure of the bridge in June this year, signifies another major breakthrough in the construction of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge.
The Changtai Yangtze River Bridge adopts an upper and lower double-layer layout, with the upper layer being a six-lane expressway, the lower layer being a two-way intercity railway and a four-lane ordinary road. It is the first cross-river channel on the Yangtze River that integrates expressways, intercity railways, and ordinary roads. The bridge is 10.03 kilometers long, with a continuous steel truss beam as long as 4.26 kilometers. The total paving area of the entire bridge exceeds 250,000 square meters, with an average thickness of 6 to 6.8 centimeters.
The bridge location is characterized by complex climatic conditions, combining features such as extra-large spans, asymmetric loads, and the superposition of heavy traffic on double-layer bridge decks. To ensure engineering quality, the construction team has conducted a series of innovative research studies specifically tailored to these characteristics. They have applied various paving structures and systems based on the characteristics of different traffic zones, and introduced several new materials and technologies to enhance paving quality and efficiency.
It is worth noting that the construction team has independently developed multiple intelligent manufacturing systems that enable automatic spraying of steel bridge deck paint, automatic weighing and discharge of materials, etc., providing strong support for the fine-grained control of the entire paving process. Currently, the epoxy asphalt pavement for the upper expressway of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge has been completed for the public-rail joint construction section, providing technical support and construction experience for subsequent large-scale paving.
Under favorable conditions of continuous high temperatures and sunny weather in summer, the construction team will continue to carry out the paving of the entire steel bridge deck, aiming to complete the work by October this year. At the same time, construction of the bridge's auxiliary projects is also underway simultaneously, with an estimated completion date in the first half of 2025. Upon completion, the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge will further improve the transportation network of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, promote regional economic and social development, and contribute to the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
