After China's first "sword shining", Japan and South Korea have expressed their opinions, and a new "cannon fodder" has emerged

The United States has been suppressing and blocking China for a long time. Since Huawei's first breakthrough in 5G technology, Americans have really been eager. The reason for the crazy crackdown on Huawei is also that Huawei has leveraged the "hegemonic" position of the United States.
Faced with multiple rounds of sanctions from the United States, Chinese companies led by Huawei have begun to recognize the reality that if they fall behind, they will face punishment, and their core technologies still need to be mastered in their own hands to have enough chips. So many excellent companies are starting to layout the semiconductor industry. To contribute to reducing dependence on the United States and developing China's semiconductor industry chain.
The achievements achieved through continuous investment in independent research and development over the past few years cannot be underestimated. According to data, in the first four months of 2023, China's imported chips decreased by over 39 billion, while in 2022, there was a year-on-year decrease of 97 billion chips. From these, it can be seen that China will reduce the number of imported chips by more this year. It can be seen that the production capacity of China's semiconductor industry chain is gradually increasing, and the dependence on external sources is gradually decreasing. In order to accelerate de beautification, we are sparing no effort in following the path of independent research and development, and constantly innovating.
In late May, China's two month review of American chip giant Meguiar yielded results, and it was banned due to the existence of network security risks. This is also China's first "sword" against American companies.
The reason why Meguiar was used for the operation is that there are indeed safety hazards in Meguiar's products. In addition, Meguiar once lobbied the United States, causing chip storage companies in China such as Fujian Jinhua and Changjiang Storage to suffer significant losses due to its improper methods. It can be said that Meiguang is using the money earned in China to suppress our company. The current ban on the sale of Meiguang's products is also considered a retaliatory measure.
After being banned from sales, Meiguang took the lead in reaching out to Japan to increase investment, increase production capacity, and introduce advanced EUV lithography technology. Japan also actively responded by providing a subsidy of $1.5 billion and eagerly announcing the export control of 23 semiconductor devices, which will be officially implemented from two months to late July.
Since the "chip war" between China and the United States, it is not only Chinese companies that have suffered losses, but American companies have also suffered significant losses. In the face of huge losses, American chip giants are actively trying to find ways to ship to China. However, Japan is now willing to be the first "cannon fodder" of the United States in order to please the United States and make export control decisions, which is not very wise. Do Japan think that Japanese enterprises can develop better in this way?
As the world's largest semiconductor consumer market, some companies in China want to enter the Chinese market and gain a share. Not to mention that some chip companies in the United States are actively shipping to China, the development of domestic enterprises alone cannot be underestimated. For example, Changxin Storage will build four wafer factories, which will greatly help it increase its market share. In addition, ASML from the Netherlands is also actively shipping to China, and its upstream manufacturer KMWE has also decided to build a factory in China to produce products specifically targeting the Chinese market, in order to avoid chip regulations.
I think Japan cannot fail to see the reactions of so many companies. It is their own choice to make such a decision now. According to data, nearly 40% of Japan's semiconductor equipment is exported to the Chinese market. It seems that Japan has a bit of a sense of losing its own job now. I hope that Japanese companies will not be "dismembered" by the United States like Toshiba and Hitachi before.
Compared to Japan, South Korea's decision is much wiser. In fact, when Meiguang was under review, Biden warned South Korea that if Meiguang was banned, South Korean companies such as Samsung and SK Hynix could not seize its market share. It's also quite domineering. Samsung, SK Hynix, and Meguiar are all competing with each other, and their peers are enemies. The Meguiar is now banned and not allowed to seize market share. This is not because it is so uncomfortable to watch the cake not eat.
Subsequently, South Korea issued a request to the United States to reconsider the chip subsidy bill, as the United States provided $52 billion in subsidies to attract foreign companies to build factories in the United States. However, after attracting companies such as TSMC and Samsung to build factories in the United States, the restrictions were upgraded. It makes it a bit difficult for these companies to get down. It is understandable to make such a request for personal gain.
Moreover, according to reports from multiple media outlets, on the 26th of this month, representatives from China and South Korea met during the 29th Trade Ministers' Meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). We should strengthen trade exchanges between the two sides and have made a decision to strengthen cooperation in the field of semiconductors. South Korea has also made its own wise choice.
China welcomes friends who come to our end for business. We have always adhered to the principles of fairness and impartiality, creating a good business environment for everyone. We cannot prevent legitimate enterprise competition. Only when there is competition and gaps can we find the right direction to strive for innovation and progress.
At the same time, more attention should be paid to the cultivation and reserve of talents, improving the welfare benefits of scientific researchers, and adhering to the path of independent research and development. The core technology must be mastered by oneself in order to have more voice and competitiveness.
