The runner is the core component of a hydroelectric unit and is known as the "heart" of the unit. Pelton turbine is a type of turbine that uses high-speed jets to impact the bucket and drive the runner to generate electricity. Within the runner, components similar to the "water guide mechanism" are replaced by several "nozzles". The flow rate of water sprayed from the nozzle can reach 100 meters per second, which is approximately 360 kilometers per hour, similar to the speed of high-speed rail travel.

The first 150 megawatt large impact runner made in China, weighing about 20 tons and having a maximum diameter of about 4 meters, was independently developed by Dongfang Electric Machinery Co., Ltd. of Dongfang Electric Group. It was successfully launched on May 16 this year. After several days of installation and commissioning, it has been put into practical use and successfully generated electricity in the cascade hydropower station of Sichuan Investment Tianwan River Basin in Shimian County, Sichuan Province today.

From 2021, in order to achieve the breakthrough of "from scratch" in the key core technology of China's high head and large capacity impact hydropower units, Sichuan Investment Group and Dongfang Electric Group will start a new scientific and technological breakthrough mode of central local cooperation and industrial chain upstream and downstream cooperation: Sichuan Investment Tianwanhe Company will share multi-year operation data and important parameters and provide trial operation conditions, and Dongfang Electric will give full play to hydraulic development, modeling design, software development Close cooperation and research on technological advantages such as model device development.
