The emergence of advanced ion sources has made the study of highly charged atomic physics a completely new field. Highly charged ion have a large number of empty Quantum state orbits, which are easy to capture atomic and molecular electrons in neutral matter, form Excited state, and de excite photons. Therefore, the research of Highly charged ion charge exchange has become an important means for the diagnosis and modeling of high temperature extreme environments such as astronomy and fusion, and has important applications in the fields of material irradiation, photolithography and X-ray light sources.
However, how the target electron selectively inhabits the empty quantum orbit of the Highly charged ion in charge exchange involves the basic quantum mechanics problem of the Quantum state transition between two atomic centers. The characteristic of low energy Highly charged ion charge exchange strong perturbation makes it a dream of experimental atomic physicists to accurately measure the selective population of Quantum state. How to describe the evolution of the target atom's electron wave function in the strong Coulomb field of Highly charged ion and the electron electron correlation effect in charge exchange has always been a challenge for theorists.
Based on the low energy EBIS platform of the Institute of Modern Physics and the reaction microscopy imaging spectrometer device, researchers have fully measured the two-dimensional momentum vector spectrum of recoil ions generated by Ar ^ 8+and He charge exchange. Due to the conservation of momentum and energy in charge exchange, the longitudinal and transverse momentum of recoil ions reflect the selection of charge exchange Quantum state and scattering angle information, respectively. By comparing the recently developed two activation electron tight coupling theory methods, after considering the electron electron interaction during the collision process, the theoretical calculation and experimental measurement of the state selection cross-section and scattering angle differential cross-section are completely consistent. Therefore, researchers have confirmed the importance of electron electron interaction in charge exchange collisions of low-energy Highly charged ion. It is also found that the charge exchange probability is very sensitive to the collision parameter (transverse momentum) and corresponds to the oscillating structure on the magnetic Quantum state scattering cross section.
