Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, July 18-- During the landing of a United Airlines passenger plane at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago on July 17, an emergency Fire escape fell off and crashed into the backyard of a residential house near the airport. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The Associated Press quoted the Federal Air Administration as saying that the Boeing 767-300 aircraft set out from Zurich, Switzerland, carrying 155 passengers and 10 crew members. After arriving at O'Hare International Airport, the maintenance personnel found that the Fire escape on the side of the aircraft was missing.

According to the Chicago WLS TV station, the accident happened at noon that day. Patrick DeWitt, the owner of the smashed house, was out when the accident happened, but his son and father-in-law were at home and heard a loud noise.

Dwight later dragged the Fire escape from the backyard to the front of the house. He said that the slide hit a part of the house, causing damage to the roof, drainage pipes, and a screen window.

DeWitt told WLS television reporters that after fully deploying this somewhat messy escape slide, it was larger than a small passenger car and "a very, very large device.

United Airlines stated in a statement that no ground personnel were injured. The airline operator is investigating why the Fire escape fell off. "We immediately contacted the Federal Air Administration, which is working with our team to better understand the situation at the time of the incident."

The Federal Air Administration of the United States said it was investigating and did not release further details. Boeing has not responded yet. (Hu Ruoyu)
