The fleet size owned by Chinese shipowners has reached 249.2 million gross tons, becoming the world's largest shipowner country in terms of gross tons.

As an important part of the comprehensive transportation system, the shipping industry is an important support to serve the economic and social development and major national strategies, and help realize Chinese path to modernization. Currently, the proportion of national waterway freight volume and cargo turnover in the comprehensive transportation system has reached 16.9% and 53.5%, respectively.
