iPhone X: A Classic Reimagined

When I first transitioned from the iPhone 7 to the iPhone X, its heftiness took some getting used to. However, upon picking it up again today, I'm struck by its newfound lightness and comfort. The 5.8-inch display, dual-glass design, and rounded midframe all contribute to a secure and satisfying grip. It's almost comical to think that in the era of "half-pound phones," reverting to the "large-sized" iPhone X would feel like a breath of fresh air.
Front: Timeless and Refined
Aside from its slightly lower brightness and refresh rate, the iPhone X's display remains a stunner, even by today's standards. It's clear, vibrant, color accurate, and I'd even argue that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13's displays haven't quite surpassed it.
High Refresh Rate: A Trade-Off
Having become accustomed to 120Hz displays, going back to the iPhone X's 60Hz refresh rate is a noticeable compromise. Scrolling feels less fluid, with a hint of lag and ghosting. It's something I'll have to readjust to.
Performance: No Longer Cutting-Edge
For everyday tasks, the iPhone X still holds up well. However, it struggles with demanding games, leading to frame drops, overheating, and reduced brightness. Its battery life has also taken a hit.
Storage: Feeling the Pinch
With its meager 64GB of storage, the iPhone X falls short compared to today's flagships, which often start at 128GB. Photos, videos, music, and a few games quickly fill up the available space.
Signal: Room for Improvement
The iPhone X's signal reception is another area where it falls behind. When placed side-by-side with the OnePlus ACE3 in the same location, the iPhone X consistently had a weaker signal. I've also noticed frequent dropped calls, which usually improve when I move closer to a window.
Connectivity: Lagging Behind
Even on Wi-Fi, the iPhone X doesn't perform as well as my mother's aging Huawei P20. Loading speeds are consistently slower, and I experience more frequent dropouts.
Battery Life: Disappointing
Battery life is another major letdown. With only around 3 hours of screen-on time, even after replacing the battery and using it conservatively, the iPhone X's longevity falls short. Unless you opt for the Pro Max model, meaningful battery life improvements have been hard to come by in recent iPhones.
Camera: Still Capable
The iPhone X's camera is still quite capable for everyday shooting. Its video recording capabilities remain top-notch.
All in all, the iPhone X is showing its age. While it can still handle basic tasks like browsing the web and social media, its overall experience falls short of modern flagships and even some mid-range devices.
However, I can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for it. I miss its advanced 3D facial recognition, its revolutionary all-screen design at the time, its incredibly thin and elegant form factor, and the memories we've shared together.
