On June 22nd, in the Lingshui Sea area in the southeast of Hainan Island, with the termination of the closure and entry into the water, the key control project of the "Deep Sea No.1" ultra deep water atmospheric field phase II - the laying of the 20 inch submarine long-distance pipeline - was completed. This is the longest deepwater oil and gas pipeline in China, marking an important breakthrough in China's deepwater long-distance pipeline construction capacity and deepwater equipment technology.

The second phase of the "Deepsea No.1" project is approximately 130 kilometers away from Sanya, Hainan, and is located between the Yacheng 13-1 gas field and the "Deepsea No.1" energy station. The maximum operating water depth in the area is nearly 1000 meters, and the proven geological reserves of natural gas reach 50 billion cubic meters. After being put into operation, the peak annual production of the "Deepsea No.1" atmospheric field can be increased from 3 billion cubic meters to 4.5 billion cubic meters, becoming an important gas source to ensure China's energy security.

In order to efficiently and economically develop the second phase of "Deepwater No.1" project, CNOOC pioneered the oil and gas development mode of "underwater production system+shallow water jacket processing platform+deepwater Semi-submersible platform remote control system". On the one hand, a new oil and gas production and processing platform will be built in the shallow water area to connect with the Yacheng 13-1 gas field, and the oil and natural gas extracted from the second phase of the "Deep Sea No.1" project will be transported through a large-diameter subsea pipeline; On the other hand, the underwater production system of the "Deep Sea One" Phase II project is connected to the control system of the "Deep Sea One" energy station through a deep-sea umbilical cable, achieving remote control. Wu Hualin, Deputy Manager of the Deepwater Pipeline and Cable Department of the "Deep Sea No.1" Phase II Project of CNOOC Hainan Branch, introduced.

Submarine pipelines are the lifeline for ensuring the smooth transportation of offshore oil and gas. The second phase of the "Deep Sea No.1" project is China's first deepwater high-pressure gas field. The oil and gas extracted from the formation have complex composition, high temperature, and high pressure, and conventional materials of submarine pipes cannot meet production needs. China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has for the first time applied the combination plan of "114 kilometers of deepwater large-diameter seamless steel pipes+1.5 kilometers of deepwater bimetallic composite pipes" in a deepwater environment, building the "aorta" connecting the oil and gas transportation of the "Deepsea No.1" Phase II project.

This submarine pipeline is specially designed for the "mixed transportation of high-temperature, high-pressure, and strongly corrosive oil and gas". The pipeline design pressure can reach 38.8 MPa, and can transport oil and gas at a high temperature of 120 degrees Celsius. The maximum wall thickness reaches 38 millimeters, setting a new record for the wall thickness of offshore pipelines in China. Hou Jing, the chief engineer of the Phase II project of the "Deep Sea No.1" project, introduced: "We have collaborated with domestic manufacturers to optimize chemical composition, adopt high-precision rolling technology and advanced heat treatment technology, meet the requirements of high strength and high toughness indicators, achieve the full process of domestic production in research and development, and provide strong support for China's ultra deep water oil and gas development equipment

As the water depth increases, the difficulty of constructing submarine pipeline projects increases exponentially. The second phase of the "Deep Sea No.1" project is located in a sea area with complex geological conditions, including various complex terrains such as submarine steep slopes and large-scale sand slopes and ridges. It is the largest underwater pipeline in China with the largest water depth span, posing great challenges to engineering design, ship equipment capabilities, and offshore installation technology.

According to Guo Qing, the general contracting project manager of the "Deep Sea No.1" Phase II project of CNOOC Engineering, the project team has conducted extensive calculations and analyses on the suspended spans of offshore pipelines under different geological conditions in response to complex routing situations. They have successfully solved world-class submarine pipeline engineering technical problems such as ultra long and ultra high suspended spans, and have made adaptive modifications to the key equipment of the main operating vessel "Offshore Oil 201", We have independently developed the first fully automatic welding equipment process for large diameter and thick wall offshore pipelines in China, achieving more than 10 technological breakthroughs. During construction, we have set a record for the laying speed of domestic 20 inch deep-water pipelines of 2.65 kilometers per day.

It is understood that up to now, China has laid over 9000 kilometers of offshore oil and gas pipelines, which is equivalent to the distance of the Shanghai Paris route.
