Key Evidence for the Existence of Nanohertz Gravitational wave Discovered by "China's Celestial Eye"
Searching for the Gravitational wave of NaHz is one of the focuses in the field of international physics and astronomy. Our research team recently used the "China Tianyan" FAST to detect the key evidence of the existence of the NaHz Gravitational wave, which is an important breakthrough in the search for the NaHz Gravitational wave.
The research was completed by the Chinese Pulsar Time Measurement Array (CPTA) research team composed of researchers from the National Astronomical Observatories of China of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other units, and the relevant results were published online in the academic journal Astronomy and Astrophysics Research on June 29.
Gravitational wave is the space-time ripple generated by the disturbance of the surrounding space-time by the accelerating mass objects in the universe. Gravitational wave signal is extremely weak, but it is a direct means to detect the non luminous matter in the universe. Since the Gravitational wave generated by objects with larger mass are lower in frequency, the detection of Gravitational wave with frequencies as low as nanometers (10 to the negative 9th power of Hertz) is of great significance for understanding Supermassive black hole, the history of galaxy mergers, and the formation of the Large-scale structure of the Universe of the universe.

Li Kejia, the corresponding author of the article and a researcher at the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences/Peking University, said that because of the extremely low frequency, the period of the Gravitational wave is several years, and the wavelength can reach several light years, the detection work is very challenging. Long term time measurement and observation of a batch of Millisecond pulsar with extremely regular rotation by using a large Radio telescope is the only means known to detect the Gravitational wave of the NaHz.
In this study, the CPTA research team used the "Chinese Celestial Eye" to conduct long-term systematic monitoring of 57 Millisecond pulsar. Based on the independently developed software, the data with a time span of three years and five months were analyzed and studied, and evidence of quadrupole related signals with the characteristics of nanosecond Gravitational wave was found on the 4.6 sigma confidence level (the false alarm rate is less than one in five hundred thousand).

"The detection sensitivity of NaHz Gravitational wave strongly depends on the observation time span. The scientific research teams in the United States, Europe and Australia have respectively carried out the search for NaHz Gravitational wave for about 20 years. The CPTA research team has made full use of the excellent performance of the 'Chinese Celestial Eye' to make China's detection and research of NaHz Gravitational wave synchronously reach the world's leading level with the advantages in data accuracy, the number of Pulsar and data processing algorithms." Academician Chang Jin, Director of the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said.
It is reported that the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will further speed up the scientific research on the detection of the Gravitational wave, accumulate more long-term observation data, and help open a new window for the exploration of the universe using the Gravitational wave.
