Lake Baikal is located in Siberia, Russia. Lake Baikal is the deepest fresh water lake in the world. The fresh water in the lake can still be used by human beings for 500 years without injection. The Lake Baikal area was called Hanhai, Beihai and so on in ancient China. It was a nomadic area for ethnic minorities in ancient China. It was also a place for Suwu to herd sheep. The Lake Baikal area was the homeland of China.
In today's rapidly developing China, especially in North China and Northwest China, the demand for industrial and domestic water has greatly increased. In order to break the water shortage caused by regional climate and production and life, China has launched the century long "South North Water Diversion" project, which is beneficial for the future. The project is divided into the "East, West, and Middle" three line project, mainly to alleviate the water demand in North China.
[East Line Project]: The concept of the East Line Project is to take water from Lake Baikal, pass through Heilongjiang, go south along the Northeast China Plain, and pass through the Yanshan Mountains to Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong and other regions, so as to meet the production and domestic water demand of North China. This line directly runs from Russia to China, and the East Line project is the lightest construction difficulty of the entire project.
[Middle line project]: the middle line project takes water from Lake Baikal, passes through Ulan-Ude, passes through Kyakhta, and then goes south to Ulaanbaatar in western Inner Mongolia, China. The middle line project mainly supplies water to Bayannur, Baotou, Hohhot, Erdos and other Inner Mongolia regions in western Inner Mongolia (the main stream of the eastern line in the middle line project in China); A main line provides water supply needs for cities such as Yinchuan, Yulin, Yan'an, and Xi'an (the main stream of the central line project in China); Another main stream provides water to areas such as Tianshui, Lanzhou, Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiuquan, and Dunhuang (the western main stream of the central line project in China).
[West Line Project]: The west line project takes water from Lake Baikal, passes through the Mongolian Plateau, arrives at Inner Mongolia region of China, and then arrives at Yumen Pass Pass. It is divided into three lines in China: the north line, the middle line, and the south line. The northern line supplies Hami, Turpan, Changji, Urumqi, Shihezi, Karamay and Tacheng. The middle line is from Lop Nur to Korla, Luntai, Kuqa, Aksu and finally to Kashgar. The south line starts from Lop Nur to Ruoqiang, Qiemo, Minfeng, Yutian, Hotan, Yecheng, Shache and finally to Kashgar.
