Recently, a video that has been widely circulated online has angered many netizens. According to a report by Huashang Daily, in the online video, two men suspected of holding a box of screws to feed the seagulls, and even stuffed the screws into bread to feed the seagulls. With multiple reminders, the two of them still went their own way, and this deliberate act of harming seagulls was extremely heinous.
Coincidentally, just recently, a video sparked public outrage. The video shows that several men took turns using slingshots to hit seagulls at the seaside in Weihai, Shandong. Netizens have expressed condemnation, and local police have publicly responded that once confirmed, the parties involved will be punished.
At the seaside, seagulls are the most common and well-known birds. They have become accustomed to friendly coexistence with humans, and are much less wary of human feeding, which also provides opportunities for many "bad hearted" people to take advantage of. Some people feed bread, while others feed various foods such as potato chips, fried potatoes, and spicy chips, which not only pollute the seawater but also directly harm seagulls. But in contrast, the bad behavior of feeding screws to seagulls undoubtedly breaks the bottom line.
Seagulls are "three protected animals" and are clearly listed in the national protection list. Seagulls have important ecological, scientific, and social values, and it is illegal to engage in illegal hunting and harm activities such as catching, taking photos, raising, and consuming them.
Therefore, if the behavior of these two people feeding screws is found to have caused substantial harm to the seagulls, they will be subject to administrative penalties; Those with serious circumstances may also face criminal penalties.
In fact, even if seagulls are not under special protection, this act of killing lives needs to be severely condemned and promptly stopped.
Arbitrary feeding behavior not only has the potential to increase the burden of marine pollution and change the natural habits of wildlife, but also has the possibility of spreading diseases to humans. It should be common sense and routine not to feed seagulls and other birds at will. The best way to get along with seagulls and other wild animals in a harmonious and friendly way is to keep a distance and watch their beauty.
The repeated incidents of improper feeding and injury also remind us that although protecting wildlife and maintaining natural ecology have become our social consensus, it is still necessary to strengthen public legal awareness and establish a more systematic and comprehensive regulatory enforcement system to ensure that wild animals, including seagulls, no longer suffer from malicious harm without reason.
