It is planned to start construction at the end of November this year. After completion, Phoenix Airport can meet the annual throughput of 30 million person times.

Since its opening, Phoenix Airport has played an important role in the development of Sanya and its surrounding areas. In 2018, the passenger throughput has exceeded 20 million person times, making it the first airport in China to join the "20 million club" in a non provincial Prefecture-level city.

Phoenix Airport, as an important regional aviation hub and large international airport in the southern airport cluster of China, has become increasingly prominent due to the construction of Hainan International Tourism Consumption Center and the continuous heating up of Sanya Coastal Tourism Boom. Shi Meikang, Director of the Airport Construction Planning Department of Hainan Airport Group, stated that the revision of the overall plan of Phoenix Airport has been approved, clarifying the development direction of the airport in the next 10 years, and establishing a normative basis for the implementation of the third phase project of Phoenix Airport, as well as completing the necessary prerequisites; It is an important milestone for the subsequent completion and operation of the third phase of Phoenix Airport, improving the airport's comprehensive support capacity and operation quality, promoting the orderly development of airport airport industry and the economic and social development of Sanya, and at the same time, it has injected more powerful power into the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port.

According to the planning revision, Phoenix Airport will plan to build a new T3 terminal on the west side of the current international terminal. It is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of 2025, which can meet the annual passenger throughput demand of 18 million people. With the existing terminal, Phoenix Airport can meet the annual aircraft takeoff and landing needs of 173000 passenger terminals and the annual passenger throughput demand of 30 million people.

At the same time, after the completion of the third phase of Phoenix Airport, it can also meet the demand for an annual cargo throughput of 450000 tons, and a series of optimization has been carried out on Taxiway, parking stands, integrated transportation hubs, etc.
