Reported by Reference News Network on July 24thAccording to the report of Buenos Aires Economic News Network on July 7, more and more experts and scientific research around the world warn people of the danger of Cannabis smoking smoking and its long-term destructive effects on the brain, especially when schizophrenia attacks.

The first paper on this topic was a Swedish study published in 1997, which found that excessive use of marijuana can increase the risk of developing schizophrenia by up to six times. In the following decades, scientists found that Cannabis smoking smoking was closely related to depression, bipolar disorder and other serious psychological diseases.

Now, a new Longitudinal study has consulted the medical records of all Danish citizens over 16 years old (about 6.5 million people in total), and analyzed the diagnosis, hospitalization and treatment patterns of drug abuse between 1995 and 2021.

Dr. Oscar Hogo Jefferson of the Aarhus University in Denmark and his colleagues published a paper in the monthly issue of Journal of the American Medical Association - Psychiatry in May this year, which showed that people who were previously diagnosed with cannabis use disorders were almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with clinical depression later.

The study also found that people with marijuana use disorders are four times more likely to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder with psychiatric symptoms later on. Men face greater risks than women, although the study did not distinguish between different forms and concentrations of marijuana, the more marijuana a a person smokes, the higher their chances of developing these symptoms.

Dr. Thomas Richardson, associate professor of Clinical psychology at Southampton University and manic depressive expert, was not involved in this study, However, he gave a very high evaluation to this study: "This is an impressive and important study. The study sample is more than 6 million, which is the largest study so far. The study shows that there is a link between Cannabis smoking smoking and the development of depression and bipolar disorder. One of the advantages of this study is that they have followed the population for many years, and considered factors such as family history of emotional disorders." (Compilation/Han Chao)
