Technology Daily, Beijing, February 18th (Intern reporter Zhang Jiaxin) According to Physicist Organization Network on the 17th, researchers at the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland have developed a new method for producing efficient X-ray detectors by using 3D aerosol jet printing. This new type of detector can be easily integrated into standard microelectronic devices, greatly improving the performance of medical imaging equipment. The research findings are published in the scientific monthly journal ACSNano of the American Chemical Society.
This new detector was developed by a research team led by Flor from the School of Basic Sciences at the Federal College of Technology in Lausanne, and is composed of graphene and perovskite. Using the aerosol jet printing equipment of the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microelectronics Technology, researchers 3D printed calcium titanium layers on graphene substrates. The idea is that in the device, perovskite acts as a photon detector and electron discharger, while graphene amplifies the output electrical signal.
In addition, it was reported that researchers used methyllead iodide perovskite, which has recently attracted attention due to its fascinating photoelectric properties and low manufacturing costs.
This type of perovskite contains heavy atoms, which provide photons with a high scattering cross-section, making it a perfect candidate material for X-ray detection, "said chemist Endre Hawatt of the research group
The results indicate that the X-ray detector produced by this method has a record breaking high sensitivity - four times higher than the best medical imaging equipment in the class.
By using photovoltaic perovskite with graphene, the response to X-rays is greatly increased, "said Fro." This means that if we use a combination of these two materials in X-ray imaging, the required X-ray dose for imaging can be reduced by more than 1000 times, thereby reducing the harm of high-energy ionizing radiation to human health
Another advantage of perovskite graphene detectors is that they do not require precision photomultiplier tubes or complex electronic devices, making medical imaging very simple.
The report states that the aerosol jet printing technology used in this study is a relatively novel technology that can be used to manufacture electronic components for 3D printing, such as resistors, capacitors, antennas, sensors, and thin film transistors. It can even print electronic products on specific substrates, such as handheld machine casings.
In addition to X-ray photographs, X-ray medical applications also include fluoroscopy, cancer radiotherapy, and electronic computed tomography. This new type of detector is easy to synthesize and has more cutting-edge applications, which can be widely used in solar cells, LED lights, lasers, and photodetectors.
Editor in Chief Circle
The well-known application of perovskite is to manufacture ultra efficient photovoltaic cells, and sometimes it also plays an advantage in areas such as transistors and LED lighting. However, it also has an extraordinary potential as a material for X-ray detectors. This is determined by its excellent carrier transport characteristics and heavy atom composition architecture. Compared to existing X-ray imaging devices, detectors based on perovskite compounds are more sensitive and have lower power consumption. Its excellent charge transport and structural characteristics have been proven to be an ideal choice for achieving direct X-ray conversion. It can be expected that after further optimization, the sensitivity of X-ray detectors will easily increase by one order of magnitude in the future.
