A science fiction novel in 1930, "Heaven and Iron," predicted fully automated cars: in a mysterious island paradise, all cars, trucks, cranes, and ships were autonomous.
In the 1957 publication of "Dialogue," science fiction novelist Stanislaw Lyme described a small portable television similar to early versions of modern smartphones.
In 1992, Neil Stephenson released the science fiction novel "Avalanche", and the "metaverse" we are now gradually familiar with stems from the two concepts mentioned in the novel, "Metaverse" and "Avatar"
Science fiction novels that were once regarded as wild and imaginative by us later became tangible descriptions of reality. The scenes and plots depicted in science fiction works often serve as inspiration for technological inventions. What other technological imaginations in the vast sea of science fiction works will enter reality in the next generation?
On October 22nd, the series of activities of the 2023 Chengdu World Science Fiction Conference - "Ten Future Technologies in Science Fiction Works" was officially released in Chengdu. Science fiction writers Liu Cixin and Jiang Bo, science fiction scholars Liu Bing, Yan Feng, Wu Yan, Canadian science fiction writer Robert Sawyer, and American science fiction editor Neil Clark, among others, shared the selection process and feelings at the press conference.
The selection, which lasted for over a month, attracted 17 science fiction giants to participate in nominations and reviews, with over 350000 people participating in likes. In the end, the space elevator, which made a stunning appearance in this year's popular movie "Wandering Earth 2," topped the public likes list and was named the "most anticipated future technology" by the public.

The development of technology has not changed much for humans themselves
Today we live in a world that has been repeatedly written by science fiction novels. The vast imagination of technology in the past has entered reality, but science fiction fans' imagination of the future will not stop here.
The top ten future technologies in science fiction are listed in order: space elevators, cyberspace (virtual world or metaverse), brain computer interfaces, nanorobots, biocomputers, human hibernation, mechanical exoskeletons (power armor), Dyson balls, quantum computers, and brain banks.

Space elevators are also the future technology that I look forward to the most, "Robert Sawyer said in a speech." In the next three thousand years, we will all see the development of space elevators - thousands of kilometers of space elevators will connect our Earth to space, making it possible for us to ascend to the sky. Through space elevators, we can reach and touch space

Science fiction writer Jiang Bo believes that future technology can be divided into two levels. One is the distant imagination, such as "ultra light flight," which cannot be achieved based on our understanding of technology. Another type is technology that gradually permeates reality, such as the metaverse and brain computer interfaces. Even the PK (competition) between the metaverse and space elevator on the list reminds people of Zuckerberg and Musk "playing the ring".
I like the future, but the future I like is an ongoing future, which includes the past, present, and future. This is the future I like, not an isolated future, "Yan Feng said, I love games and technology. How games integrate with technology is the most attractive future for me. I have been imagining the future form of a game, so I vote for virtual reality. This virtual reality is not self enclosed, it constantly integrates and interacts with the real world
What is the science and technology that can still bring a sense of future to Liu Cixin? Liu Cixin stated that he is very concerned about two technologies, one is aerospace technology, and the other is technology that changes our own humanity.
Aerospace technology is how we can break free from the gravitational pull of the Earth and ascend into space. The biggest technical challenge now is the gravitational pull of the Earth. As long as we can break free from it in a low-cost way, the aerospace industry can develop, "explained Liu Cixin, As for why I am concerned about 'changing our own technology', it is because technology has developed to this day, and humans themselves have not changed much. We are still modern primitive humans, and we still follow biological steps in evolution. However, in the future, through molecular biology and human-machine communication, we may change our physiological characteristics and carry out human evolution, which may be a significant improvement on ourselves, but of course, it may also change Change our culture, civilization, etc
Previously emphasized knowledge learning, now emphasizes learning knowledge
A young audience member asked a guest on stage a question. According to current scientific research, it took less than a year for primitive humans to master the skills of survival and hunting. Now that we have proposed the concept of lifelong learning, people have found that time is becoming increasingly scarce. What will be the future scenarios for us to acquire knowledge and learn?
In the future, we can inject this thing into our minds, and in an instant, we can acquire this knowledge. "Wu Yan responded to the questions from the on-site audience, But the most important drawback of this method is that without experience, there is only knowledge. Without experience, you will have many things that cannot be aligned and must be operated on. Therefore, at any time, this period of time is necessary. If this experience must be used, then it must be lifelong learning

According to anthropologists' in-depth research on the remaining primitive tribes, it is far from that simple. "Liu Cixin responded, The knowledge of primitive people is not as small as we think, including the recognition of various plants, tracking animal footprints, and responding to natural disasters... It may not be enough for a modern person to truly master the survival skills of primitive life for ten to twenty years. Therefore, it is not easier for us to reach the point where primitive people can survive than for us to grow from a primary school student to a doctor or an engineer. This is the importance of experience
