Visiting the exhibition areas, we feel that the trend of "going green" has become an unstoppable force, and CIIE has become an important application scene for green and low-carbon development. Sustainable development, concerning the long-term prosperity of human society, has become a global consensus and action guideline.
Energy Transition: Technological Innovation Leads Sustainable Development
As an important pillar of sustainable development, the energy sector sees companies actively demonstrating their efforts in promoting energy transition through the latest technologies and products.
Siemens Energy: Powering China's Energy Development and Transformation
As a vital force in China's energy development, Siemens Energy showcased at this year's CIIE a range of cutting-edge research and development, industry-leading technologies and products in key areas related to energy low-carbon transformation, including power generation, power transmission, industrial decarbonization, and renewable energy.
Dr. Christian Bruch, President and CEO of Siemens Energy AG, said that the strong attraction of the Chinese market and the strong desire of global companies to deepen cooperation and exchange have jointly contributed to the record-high number of exhibitors at this CIIE. In the energy sector, global cooperation is more important than ever.
From assisting in lighting China's first arc lamp in Shanghai in 1879, to participating in the construction of China's first hydroelectric power station, the Shi Long Ba Power Station, in Kunming, Yunnan in 1912, to now establishing 15 manufacturing factories and a complete supply chain layout in China, Siemens Energy has become an indispensable force in China's energy development and transformation.
China's modernization requires the support of a modern energy system. Carbon neutrality is not limited to traditional energy structure adjustments, but requires international cooperation and technological innovation at a higher level, which brings vast market opportunities for international enterprises like Siemens Energy.
Christian Bruch believes that actively cultivating new forms of productivity is key to driving high-quality development of China's energy sector, and a new type of energy system will provide strong support for its rapid development. Siemens Energy will work together with its extensive partners in China to accelerate the commercial application of green and low-carbon energy technologies, moving them out of laboratories and into commercial applications, driving the construction of a new energy system and a modern industrial system through technological innovation.
Hitachi Energy: Reducing the Carbon Footprint of Offshore Wind Turbines
With the advancement of energy transition, electricity demand is growing steadily, driving the expansion and upgrading of power transmission and distribution networks. The application of environmentally friendly power equipment will strongly support the decarbonization process of power grids.
Hitachi Energy showcased its comprehensive OceaniQ offshore energy product portfolio and offshore wind farm grid connection solutionsmodular offshore substationat this CIIE. Among them, environmentally friendly high-voltage switchgear products, designed without sulfur hexafluoride (SF), can significantly reduce environmental impact.
The 66kV WindSTAR transformer featuring biodegradable natural ester oil as an insulating medium, showcased for the first time at this CIIE, can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of offshore wind turbines. Currently, Hitachi Energy's first batch of global transformers of this type has been applied in the 300MW capacity expansion project of the Xuwen Offshore Wind Farm in Zhanjiang, Guangdong.
Zhao Yongzhan, Global Executive Vice President and President of Greater China, Hitachi Energy, said that CIIE demonstrates China's determination to promote high-level opening up and its vision of achieving common development. Hitachi Energy is committed to working with all parties to deploy the technologies needed for energy transition, support China in accelerating the construction of a new power system, and contribute to the early realization of the "dual carbon" goals.
GEVernova: Debut of Direct Air Capture Technology
As a giant in the energy sector, GEVernova, following its spin-off earlier this year, made its debut at CIIE as an independent company. At GEVernova's booth, in addition to various innovative models of gas turbines, the most surprising exhibit was the Asia premiere of the "Direct Air Capture (DAC) model" and the "China premiere" of the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) model.
Xu Xin, Chairman of GE Energy Investment (China) Co., Ltd. and President of GEVernova Gas Power Services China, introduced that Direct Air Capture technology is a new technological achievement of GEVernova in the field of energy transition. It has the ability to directly capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, not only reducing carbon emissions from human activities but also potentially reducing historical carbon emissions already in the atmosphere, supporting energy transition.
Xu Xin emphasized that carbon capture is a key pathway for the power industry and other energy-intensive industries that rely on fossil fuels to achieve decarbonization. With its highly efficient emission reduction capability, GEVernova's carbon capture solution can reduce carbon emissions by up to 95% for combined cycle power plants.
Sustainable development is at the heart of GEVernova's strategy. GEVernova's firm commitment to carbon neutrality aligns perfectly with China's goal of achieving low-carbon development. China is currently in a critical stage of rapid energy transition, a process fraught with challenges but also brimming with opportunities.
GEVernova hopes to leverage its unique strengths in business scale and technological depth to comprehensively support China's construction of a new power system and the realization of its "dual carbon" goals, facilitating China's high-quality and sustainable development.
Green Living: Starting with Daily Details
Beyond innovations in the energy sector, CIIE also showcases green and low-carbon products and solutions from various industries, highlighting the trend of sustainable development being integrated into daily life.
Dole: Fashionable Garments Made from Banana Stems and Leaves
In the agricultural products exhibition area, a series of Malaysian robes displayed by Dole attracted many visitors. These garments are made from banana tree stems and leaves, not only vibrant and beautiful but also reflecting Dole's commitment to sustainable development.
Dole has been cultivating bananas since 1899, and to ensure the high quality of its bananas, Dole has established its own farms in several key production areas around the world. Every year, about 4.4 million banana stems and leaves are discarded. Burning or burying these discarded materials would generate a large amount of carbon dioxide, affecting the environment.
To reduce the environmental impact of plant disposal, Dole processes discarded banana stems and leaves through a series of steps to create exquisite fashionable garments. Banana Fibers are known for their strength and durability. These fibers are breathable and comfortable to wear, suitable for various types of clothing and accessories. This initiative reduces about 250,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, provides employment for over 100 local people, and improves their income levels.
ASICS: Recycling Running Shoes
In the sporting goods exhibition area, ASICS showcased the recyclable high-performance running shoe NIMBUS MIRAI. The shoe's upper is made from uniform polyester fibers, with no additional overlays, making it easier to sort and recycle.
ASICS also uses a unique proprietary glue to simplify the recycling process. This special glue contains a durable adhesive that provides excellent bonding during production while also allowing the shoe's upper to separate easily from the sole during recycling for re-manufacturing.
Testing has confirmed that 87.3% of the upper material in NIMBUS MIRAI can be successfully recycled back into new polyester material for reuse in running shoe production.
NIMBUS MIRAI, while considering sustainable design, also offers powerful performance for runners. The midsole uses FF BLAST PLUS ECO environmentally friendly material made from approximately 24% recycled materials, enabling lightweight shoes while exhibiting excellent cushioning.
ASICS also launched its first recycling program in some global markets simultaneously, urging runners to return their end-of-life NIMBUS MIRAI through offline stores. The shoes will undergo technical treatment and be re-circulated for use, encouraging more people to participate in the implementation of sustainable concepts through practical actions.
Looking Ahead: Working Together to Create a Green and Low-Carbon Future
As an international exchange platform, CIIE not only promotes cooperation and exchange among enterprises from different countries but also provides new ideas and solutions for global sustainable development.
Through the display of these exhibits and technologies, we can see that a greener, lower-carbon, and more sustainable future is on its way. As the world's focus on sustainable development continues to deepen, we have reason to believe that through continuous technological innovation and international cooperation, we can more effectively address climate change, achieve carbon neutrality goals, and drive high-quality global economic development.
