Shenzhen's First Roadside Supercharger Station Commences Trial Operation, Ushering in a New Era for the "Supercharging City"
Shenzhen, a city brimming with innovation, has once again made a breakthrough in the construction of new energy infrastructure. On November 19, 2023, Shenzhen's first roadside supercharger station, located on Dezheng Road in Longgang District, officially began trial operation, marking a significant step forward in the city's ambition to become a "Supercharging City." This project, a close collaboration between the Longgang District Development and Reform Bureau and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), is Shenzhen's first charging facility to utilize roadside supercharging technology, offering unprecedented convenience for electric vehicle (EV) owners.
The roadside supercharger station utilizes CATL's independently developed first-generation roadside supercharging equipment the "Shenxing" supercharger. While the input power is only 40 kilowatts, clever energy storage and distribution technology boosts the output power to 480 kilowatts, enabling ultra-fast charging: "3 minutes of parking adds 25 kWh of energy, extending the range by 150 kilometers." This technological breakthrough dramatically reduces charging time, significantly improves EV range, and effectively addresses the common "range anxiety" faced by EV owners.
Compared to traditional charging piles, roadside supercharger stations offer significant locational advantages. They cleverly utilize existing parking spaces along city roads, making optimal use of public space and saving valuable land resources. Drivers enjoy two hours of free parking while rapidly charging, enabling a true "charge and go" experience, greatly facilitating daily life. Furthermore, the construction cost of this supercharger station is relatively low, as it directly connects to the city's power grid without requiring additional transformers, reducing infrastructure investment.
The Longgang District Development and Reform Bureau stated that this pilot roadside supercharger station project, a collaborative effort with CATL, aims to provide valuable experience and implementation pathways for Shenzhen's "Supercharging City" initiative. Planned since the beginning of the year, the project, after multiple rounds of review and collaboration across various departments, successfully completed equipment installation and commenced trial operation. This not only reflects the Longgang District government's emphasis on the development of the new energy vehicle industry but also showcases the government's efficiency in coordinating and rapidly advancing projects.
With the booming development of the new energy vehicle market, the construction of charging infrastructure has become a critical factor limiting industry growth. Since deploying the "Supercharging City" initiative in November 2023, Shenzhen, and specifically Longgang District, has actively responded to the municipal government's call, systematically planning, scientifically deploying, and vigorously promoting the construction of supercharger stations. To date, Longgang District has built 135 supercharger stations, ranking among the top in Shenzhen in terms of both quantity and progress, with another 28 planned projects underway. This fully demonstrates Longgang District's determination and capability in new energy infrastructure construction.
The trial operation of this roadside supercharger station is a small but crucial step in Shenzhen's journey to build a comprehensive new energy infrastructure. It provides a successful and replicable model for the future promotion and deployment of more roadside supercharger stations. As the roadside supercharger network gradually expands, Shenzhen's EV owners will enjoy more convenient and efficient charging services, effectively alleviating range anxiety, further promoting the popularization and development of EVs, and contributing to the construction of a green and low-carbon city.
During the trial operation period, the Longgang District Development and Reform Bureau will closely monitor the usage and user feedback of the roadside supercharger station, continuously optimizing equipment performance and service experience to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient charging services for EV owners. The bureau will also actively summarize the pilot experience to provide strong support for the city-wide promotion of roadside supercharger stations and offer guidance to other cities in new energy infrastructure construction.
This innovative measure not only enhances the charging convenience of EVs in Shenzhen but also demonstrates Shenzhen's foresight in promoting the development of green transportation. The successful trial operation of the roadside supercharger station provides valuable experience for other cities and points towards a new direction for the development of the new energy vehicle industry nationwide and globally. It is not only a technological breakthrough but also an innovation in urban planning and management, representing a significant step towards sustainable urban development.
Shenzhen's proactive exploration in building a "Supercharging City" provides an effective reference model for other cities. This construction model, which emphasizes technological innovation, efficient coordination, and scientific planning, is worthy of emulation. With the application of more innovative technologies and strong government support, China's new energy vehicle industry is poised for a brighter future.
Shenzhen will continue to increase investment in new energy infrastructure construction, continuously improving the charging network, and actively exploring new charging models to provide a solid foundation for the development of the new energy vehicle industry. This will not only benefit the rapid development of the new energy vehicle industry but also improve air quality, enhance citizens' quality of life, and build a green and low-carbon harmonious society.
The official commencement of trial operation for Shenzhen's first roadside supercharger station is not only a milestone in Shenzhen's new energy infrastructure construction but also a significant marker for the development of China's new energy vehicle industry. It signifies that China's technological innovation and industrial development in the new energy field are steadily advancing, contributing Chinese strength to building a clean energy system and achieving sustainable development goals.
The convenience and efficiency of roadside supercharger stations will effectively solve the charging challenges faced by new energy vehicle users, further stimulating market vitality and promoting market penetration. This will have a positive and far-reaching impact on alleviating urban traffic congestion, reducing carbon emissions, and improving the urban environment.
Based on the successful experience of this pilot project, Shenzhen will further explore and improve the construction model of roadside supercharger stations and promote it throughout the city and even nationwide, providing convenient charging services for more new energy vehicle users. In the near future, efficient and convenient roadside supercharger stations will be ubiquitous on city roads, creating more convenient conditions for the popularization and use of new energy vehicles.
The trial operation of Shenzhen's first roadside supercharger station successfully integrates advanced technology with urban infrastructure construction, setting a benchmark for the construction of a "Supercharging City" and providing replicable and promotable successful experience for other cities. This will greatly promote the development of new energy transportation and contribute to China's early achievement of its carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals. Its success lies not only in technological breakthroughs but also in its positive impact on urban development models, providing new ideas and directions for future urban construction. This is not only progress for Shenzhen, but also progress for China's new energy vehicle industry and a positive signal for global green transportation development.
The trial operation of this roadside supercharger station is a significant measure by Shenzhen to actively respond to the national call and vigorously develop the new energy vehicle industry. It not only reflects the Shenzhen municipal government's emphasis on green environmental protection but also showcases its technological strength and innovation capabilities in the new energy field. This measure will undoubtedly have a positive demonstration effect on the development of the new energy vehicle industry nationwide and globally. We look forward to more innovative projects emerging in the future, jointly promoting the vigorous development of China's new energy industry.
