Seres at the Davos Forum: The Path to Globalizing New Energy Vehicles Through Cooperation in the Intelligent Era
From January 20th to 24th, the World Economic Forum's 2025 Annual Meeting took place in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, under the theme "Cooperation in the Intelligent Era." Nearly 3,000 representatives from 130 countries and regions gathered to discuss issues such as reimagining growth and industries in the intelligent era. As the only Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) company invited, Seres' Vice President, Mr. Kang Bo, attended the event and participated in numerous forum activities. He shared Seres' approach to achieving high-quality development through cooperation in the intelligent era within a global context, and offered insightful perspectives on the future development trends of China's NEV industry.
In the era of globalization, open cooperation has become an inevitable trend. Sharing resources and technologies fosters innovative business and industrial models, which is key to achieving high-quality cooperation in the intelligent era. Mr. Kang Bo noted that the boundaries of the NEV industry are increasingly blurred, with cross-industry integration becoming a prominent feature. Seres has benefited from the "cooperation in the intelligent era" philosophy, establishing partnerships with a growing number of world-class automotive parts suppliers globally and engaging in cross-industry collaborations with ICT companies, significantly enhancing its products' intelligence. Simultaneously, Seres actively exports its powertrain technology capabilities, fostering the shared growth of its partners. Currently, Seres' range extender products have partnered with 12 global companies, jointly driving progress in the automotive industry.
Mr. Kang Bo pointed out that the core driving force behind the high-quality development of China's NEV industry lies in new productivity. Chinese NEV companies have made significant progress in core technologies such as powertrain systems, artificial intelligence, new materials, and advanced manufacturing, resulting in continuously enhanced new productivity. Seres, through its deep engagement with new productivity, continuously elevates its brand connotation and value, thus entering a stage of high-quality development.
Although China's NEV industry has established certain advantages in products, technology, and cost, getting global users to accept Chinese NEV brands remains a significant challenge for Chinese automakers. Mr. Kang Bo emphasized that Chinese automakers must move beyond traditional trade mindsets and embrace localization strategies to achieve globalization. This includes local production and cultivating internationally-minded talent. Only by integrating into local societies and cultures can sustainable internationalization of NEVs be achieved.
In 2024, Seres' NEV sales exceeded 420,000 units, representing a year-on-year growth of over 182%. This remarkable achievement is a result of Seres' commitment to innovation and its active embrace of cooperation in the intelligent era. Mr. Kang Bo believes that the core competitiveness of intelligent vehicles lies in "software-defined vehicles." Through OTA upgrades, new software functions are continuously added, improving the vehicle's hardware experience and providing users with consistently updated smart travel experiences throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle.
Seres actively applies innovative technologies to its manufacturing processes, creating a globally benchmark-setting smart factory the Seres Super Factory. Equipped with over 3,000 robots, the factory achieves 100% automation in key processes and 100% automated quality inspection. It also pioneered the use of ten-thousand-ton-level integrated die-casting technology, integrating 222 parts into 10, significantly improving integration and product quality, and providing users with higher-quality products.
At the Davos Forum, Mr. Kang Bo's presentation not only showcased Seres' development strategy and achievements in the intelligent era but also provided valuable experience for Chinese NEV companies aiming for global success. Seres, through open cooperation, actively integrates into the global industrial chain and progressively enhances its international competitiveness through technological innovation and localization strategies.
Seres' successful global expansion can be summarized as follows:
First, actively embracing the "cooperation in the intelligent era" philosophy, enhancing its technological level and product competitiveness through collaboration with global partners. This includes partnerships with world-class automotive parts suppliers and cross-industry collaborations with ICT companies to jointly drive product intelligence upgrades.
Second, focusing on technological innovation and R&D investment to continuously improve its core competitiveness. Seres has made significant progress in powertrain systems, artificial intelligence, new materials, and advanced manufacturing, laying a solid foundation for its development. This is reflected in the construction of its super factory and the application of advanced technologies, such as the use of ten-thousand-ton-level integrated die-casting technology, significantly improving production efficiency and product quality.
Third, implementing a localization strategy to actively adapt to local market demands. Mr. Kang Bo stressed that for Chinese automakers to go global, they must move beyond the limitations of a "trade" mindset and integrate into local societies and cultures to achieve sustainable development. Local production and talent cultivation are key to achieving this goal.
Fourth, focusing on user experience, positioning software-defined vehicles as its core competitiveness. Through OTA upgrades, continuously enriching software functions, optimizing user experience, providing users with consistently updated smart travel experiences throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle.
Fifth, building a globally benchmark-setting smart factory to improve production efficiency and product quality. Seres' super factory uses extensive automation technologies and advanced manufacturing technologies, achieving 100% automation in key processes and 100% automated quality inspection, providing users with higher-quality products.
In conclusion, Seres' appearance at the Davos Forum not only demonstrated its competitiveness in the global NEV market but also provided new ideas and direction for Chinese NEV companies aiming for global success. Through open cooperation, technological innovation, and localization strategies, Chinese NEV companies are poised to achieve greater success in the global market. Seres' success story also provides valuable lessons for other Chinese companies, proving that cooperation and win-win outcomes are ultimately the keys to success in global competition. In the future, Seres will continue to focus on technological innovation, uphold open cooperation, provide global users with better quality smart travel experiences, and continue to contribute to the globalization of China's NEV industry.
