The West started early in the field of technology, with many excellent technological products coming from abroad. China needs to spend a large amount of import money to meet domestic demand, such as the technology product of hand tearing steel. At one point, China's imports of hand tearing steel reached 1640 billion yuan. Due to its excellent strength, accuracy, and surface finish, hand torn steel can be used in fields such as aerospace and automotive manufacturing.
In addition, Huawei's folding screen also relies on hand tearing steel technology. If hand torn steel is monopolized by the West for a long time, Huawei may not even be able to produce folding screens, and will completely lose. However, the Chinese R&D team aimed at this technology and successfully broke the monopoly, bringing retribution to the West.
Huawei's smartphone business has been sanctioned by the United States, and its self-developed chips cannot be put into production. It also cannot use 5G networks and focuses on 4G phones. Huawei did not give up, but actively explored market space and increased its own research efforts. In terms of software, I self-developed the Hongmeng operating system, and in terms of hardware, I self-developed components such as Kunlun glass.
With its unique technology, Huawei leads the development of the domestic foldable screen mobile phone market. According to a report on the Chinese foldable screen market released by iResearch Consulting, Huawei's foldable screen market share reached 51.3% in 2022, Samsung ranked second with 18.8% market share, and OPPO ranked third with 8.8% market share.
In the past three years, the market share of Huawei's foldable screen mobile phones has exceeded 50%, indicating that Huawei's foldable screen stands out from the crowd. Due to the fact that the prices of foldable screen smartphones generally exceed 10000 yuan, the high shipment volume and market share have enabled the industry to recover revenue and profit in the foldable screen market, making up for the shortcomings of the traditional smartphone industry.
It is not easy for Huawei to achieve such achievements. If it loses the support of a key technology, Huawei will completely lose. This technology is like tearing steel by hand.
Hand torn steel, as the name suggests, is a type of steel that can be torn open by hand. It has excellent strength, accuracy, surface finish, and other properties, as well as light weight, high temperature resistance, and high corrosion resistance. Therefore, hand torn steel is widely used in aerospace, automotive manufacturing, lithium battery packaging materials, and so on.
Of course, Huawei's folding screens also rely on the support of hand tearing steel. Folding screens require strict folding environments, and only hand tearing steel can achieve this.
But Western opponents have a deep grasp of steel tearing technology, reaching a monopoly level for a time. Their technology in steel smelting, rolling, and control is very mature, and they can produce thinner and more precise hand torn steel.
Moreover, Western technologies in materials science, computer-aided design, precision machining, and other fields are also very advanced, which can meet the production requirements of high-performance hand torn steel.
At one point, China spent 1640 billion yuan on the import cost of hand torn steel. Sending such a large order to the West will continuously strengthen the research and development level of Western rival steel tearing technology, thereby stabilizing the monopoly situation.
This is not the most crucial point yet. The key is that if the West stops cutting off supply and tearing steel, many domestic industries will be unable to operate normally, and Huawei will also completely lose the competition in the folding screen mobile phone market.
However, the Chinese R&D team aimed at this technology and successfully broke the monopoly. Shanxi Taigang Group has set the goal of developing hand tear steel. After more than 700 failures, Taigang Group launched hand tear steel with a thickness of only 0.02mm in 2018. This level has reached the international mainstream level and has the strength to break Western monopolies.
But what Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group needs to do is not only to break the monopoly, but also to catch up and surpass. So Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group continued to invest in research and development work, overcoming 452 process difficulties, solving 175 equipment problems, and compressing the thickness of hand torn steel again to only 0.015mm.
Looking at the world, Western countries may not be able to produce hand torn steel with a thickness of only 0.015mm. After China took action, the West's retribution came, and their prices of hand torn steel plummeted, and their sales in the Chinese market also continued to decline.
And Chinese hand torn steel has better performance and is also favored by many countries in the global market. Therefore, China's manual tearing of steel not only successfully breaks the monopoly, but also continuously increases its export volume.
It is no longer possible for the West to restrict the development of Chinese hand torn steel. If they do not provide sales, they will only lose their market share in China.
Similar breakthrough cases have also occurred in key technological fields such as shield tunneling machines, high-speed railways, and space stations. Initially, the West held the discourse on core technologies, while China was also constrained by the West after importing from abroad. Once the equipment is damaged, it must be repaired at a high cost by hiring engineers from the West. The repair site will also be blocked to prevent technology leakage.
The West underestimates China's determination to self research, and the more restrictive it is, the more it needs to do so. Chinese research teams are working hard to break through one technology after another that has been monopolized by the West.
Of course, there is still a long way to go in the future. Currently, China is still facing constraints in areas such as lithography machines, photoresists, and high-end medical devices. The West can only rely on itself to maintain high-end technology and not export it. I believe that with the efforts of Chinese researchers, greater breakthroughs will be made.
