With the emergence of Chinese technology in multiple cutting-edge fields, the Sino US dispute has officially begun. As the "hegemon" in the field of technology, the United States has utilized its technological advantages to implement crazy and highly targeted crackdowns on Chinese enterprises. In addition to Huawei, SMIC International, DJI, and other enterprises, as well as Chinese enterprises related to chips, 5G, industrial software, lithography equipment, etc., have been more or less affected.
Under the influence of the Huawei incident, Chinese companies have begun to heavily invest in fields such as chips, 5G, and artificial intelligence, which is equivalent to "gambling" on the dignity of Chinese technology, aiming to compete with the United States to the end. To be honest, it is gratifying and joyful for Chinese enterprises to have such awareness and courage. However, from an objective perspective, there is still a slight gap in technology between China and the United States. This is something that Chinese enterprises need to face up to and make efforts within their capabilities in order not to do "useless work".
Unfortunately, in some areas of exploration, Chinese companies have still lost the bet, and the two major Chinese companies have repeatedly made official announcements, but the progress has not been as smooth. Even American media have started openly mocking Chinese technology and "starting to surrender".
Recently, there has been heavyweight news from both OPPO and the Dharma Hall, and it is very sudden. Firstly, the research and development team of OPPO's self-developed chips, Zheku, announced the official closure, with over 3000 employees and an investment of over 10 billion yuan. You should know that after Huawei was criticized, Zheku gradually became the second "Huawei" in the field of domestic chips. Just when everyone believed that Zheku could lead the rise of "Chinese chips," their dream was shattered.
Many people believe that the development of chips is a matter of burning "money", and Zheku may be trapped by "money". But its executives have made it clear that the problems that money can solve are not problems. Obviously, OPPO is also likely to be criticized by the United States, encountering obstacles that cannot be overcome. After careful consideration, such a decision was made.
Secondly, the autonomous driving research and development team of the Dharma Academy has officially announced its dissolution. Those familiar with the Dharma Academy know that it is one of Alibaba's "trumps" and has strong competitiveness in fields such as artificial intelligence and RISC-V chips. In the past few years, the Dharma Academy has achieved many breakthroughs in scientific research, and with the support of Alibaba, it remains a financially viable institution.
But the reason for abandoning the research and development of autonomous driving technology is still due to the technical bottleneck, coupled with the lack of top technical talents as support, which has entered a bottleneck period in its technological development and there is no need to continue to consume it, which is regrettable.
It is undeniable that the continuous dissolution of the core R&D team of Chinese enterprises will inevitably undermine the confidence of Chinese technology. However, there are gains and losses, and giving up decisively is also the best strategy when it is clear that the future is not feasible. There is no need to hit the south wall to know how to retreat. The competition and confrontation in the field of technology focus on technology and talent, and cannot be achieved through hard work. While having the determination to confront the Americans head-on, Chinese companies also need to make the right choices at critical moments, which is the most difficult.
Based on objective facts, I personally believe that the choices of Zheku and Dharma Academy are perhaps the wisest and most reliable choices at present. Since there are many obstacles ahead, giving up can stop losses in a timely manner, and investing research and development funds in areas with stronger technological strength may yield better results.
