In the late 1940s, the scientific community found that when the high-energy electron beam cluster was forced on the annular synchrotron to make a cyclotron motion at a speed close to the speed of light, it would emit electromagnetic waves in the tangent direction, which is synchrotron radiation light. Like a super X-ray machine, people can use it to observe the microstructure of matter. As a result, countries around the world began the "competition" of building synchrotron radiation devices to build light sources. Researchers of particle physics in China have always believed that:We need to build a high-energy light source to fill the gap.
In 2008, Li Jingyi, deputy director of the high-energy synchrotron radiation radiation light source accelerator department of the Institute of particle physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his colleagues began to demonstrate the necessity and feasibility of building high-energy synchrotron radiation light sources. After nearly 10 years of tackling key problems, they verified the feasibility of the technical path and completed the concept and engineering design of the device.The site selection for high-energy light sources was set at Beijing Huairou Science City.
In June 2019, the construction of high-energy synchrotron radiation light source broke ground and became the creed of every constructor. On the wall of the office of the members of the engineering command center, there is a zero level progress plan for engineering construction. The grand project is meticulously decomposed into 82 steps, becoming a "baton" for 52 subsystem personnel. Behind the steady progress of each time node is the busy figure of the participants who forget to sleep and eat.

Independent innovation gnaws down the "hard bone"

Nano, a unit that has never appeared in building codes, is an important guarantee for the accuracy of future light source experiments. The "little guy" inside the big device is also facing many difficulties.
The light source linear accelerator is the source of electrons and the first stage accelerator. The electron beam needs to be accelerated to a high energy of 0.5 gigahertz through it. One of the key components is the microwave power source that provides energy, which needs to be paired with an "upgraded" solid-state modulator. However, only one enterprise in the world has a mature product and the price is very expensive.

After nearly 4 years of construction, three main buildings have grown on the once barren grassland, and the largest circular building is the core of the light source. During the construction process, "Beijing, Huairou District, and Huairou Science City have provided all-round protection and protection, connecting the 'lifeline' of the 'great country's important weapons'," said Li Jingyi.
The winter of 2022 is the first winter when the main building of the light source is capped and scientific research equipment is installed. Due to the fact that the collimation accuracy of scientific research equipment is generally on the order of 10 micrometers, slight changes in environmental temperature can lead to a decrease in the collimation accuracy of the equipment. Taking the storage ring as an example, its ambient temperature must be maintained within the range of plus or minus 0.1 degrees Celsius to ensure the positioning accuracy of magnets and other equipment. Faced with such strict demands, Huairou District quickly coordinated and promptly solved problems such as water, electricity, and heating in the light source installation area
In March this year, the high-energy synchrotron radiation light source linear accelerator "full energy" beam, the first to usher in a "good start", every second there are 10 billion level electrons "shooting" from the electron gun, of which about 90% of the electrons can successfully reach the end, to ensure that the terminal charge reaches the rated 2.5 nano library (1 micro library=1000 nano library) or more.
