This technology will establish a ground to air communication link between the ground and the aircraft cabin, allowing passengers to access the Internet through wireless local area network access within the cabin. This will further enhance the spatial dimension of 5G network coverage and better meet the growing demand for air access to the Internet by aviation passengers.
The coverage of 5G networks is becoming increasingly broad from ground to high altitude. Can a 5G network with such a wide coverage have other uses besides communication? The answer from Deng Zhongliang, a professor at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, is' yes'.
The answer given by Deng Zhongliang is "5G+Beidou". 5G is a network on the ground, while Beidou is a network in the sky. Integrating the two to achieve 'integrated construction of communication and navigation' can bring massive high-precision and timely geographic big data, "Deng Zhongliang said.
Like the 5G communication network, the Beidou satellite navigation system is another "major power weapon" in China. Since 1994, the Beidou-1 satellite navigation system has been developed and constructed. Through the "three-step" strategy, the Beidou-1 satellite navigation system has become one of the four Star of David navigation systems in the world, providing services to users worldwide.
Why integrate 5G and Beidou
The '5G+Beidou' can achieve seamless indoor and outdoor positioning, "Deng Zhongliang said." Although satellite navigation positioning solves the basic needs of outdoor open area positioning, the Beidou system can already provide relatively reliable positioning performance in outdoor open areas, its signal cannot cover indoor areas and has poor environmental immunity, making it difficult to meet the needs of indoor positioning and outdoor occlusion and other complex area positioning
Deng Zhongliang introduced to reporters that due to weak satellite positioning signal strength and susceptibility to environmental factors such as obstruction, it is difficult to locate indoors, which is a difficult problem that countries around the world urgently need to solve.
Satellite signals from the sky are difficult to enter indoors, but communication signals from the ground are almost ubiquitous. So, can communication signals be used for positioning and navigation? In response to this issue, Deng Zhongliang and his team proposed the "integration of communication and guidance" approach of "5G+Beidou".
'Communication and navigation integration' refers to the use of mobile communication networks for positioning and navigation. Deng Zhongliang introduced to reporters, 'Previously, satellite signals were only available outdoors, but not indoors. But now, by replacing satellite signals with communication signals, positioning services can run from outdoors to indoors.' Deng Zhongliang stated that the ground base stations that were originally only used for communication can also provide positioning functions, and the signal coverage of the two is complementary to each other, It can greatly improve location service capabilities.
The idea of "conduction fusion" can not only improve the breadth of positioning signal coverage, but also greatly enhance the accuracy of positioning.
At present, satellite positioning and navigation can use four satellites to calculate your position, and the positioning accuracy can reach about ten meters. However, to further improve the accuracy to the meter, decimeter, and centimeter levels, there must be satellite based, ground based, and other enhancement systems. However, these enhanced signals cannot be accurately located in indoor, underground, urban canyon and other areas. "Deng Zhongliang said," 5G+Beidou "can achieve wide coverage of positioning signals, The high speed and large capacity of 5G enable stable transmission of Beidou ground-based enhanced spatiotemporal position correction signals, resulting in higher spatiotemporal accuracy of Beidou. Coupled with the strong coverage ability of mobile communication networks, high-precision positioning services can cover all spaces involved in human and mechanical energy
What fields can "5G+Beidou" be applied in
'5G+Beidou' can empower thousands of industries, "Deng Zhongliang said. The integration and mutual empowerment of 5G and Beidou is essentially a fusion of time and spatial location based on communication." The simultaneous action of the two can produce disruptive technologies, which will lead to different applications in different scenarios
In the field of transportation, Beidou's seamless indoor and outdoor positioning and navigation technology has solved the problem of satellite signal loss in tunnel scenarios.
Deng Zhongliang introduced that in the past, due to the inability of satellite signals to reach the ground and perform precise positioning, there was a regulatory blind spot under the tunnel. Once an accident occurred, it would bring great trouble. Now, The "5G+Beidou" provides a new approach to solving the problem - "Although there are no satellite signals in the tunnel, there are communication signals. Nowadays, using the concept of 'communication fusion', high-precision positioning can also be achieved in the tunnel, which helps to improve tunnel traffic efficiency, reduce the frequency of accidents in the tunnel, and reduce property losses caused by tunnel accidents
There is also the commonly used mobile taxi service - once you open the taxi service, you can immediately see where the car is and where the people are, which cannot be achieved solely through satellite positioning. Nowadays, by integrating satellite positioning with ground communication positioning, precise positioning of people and vehicles can be achieved, "said Deng Zhongliang.
In the construction of smart mines, the "5G+Beidou" has also shown impressive performance.
Relying on 5G network and combining with Beidou positioning technology, it is expected to achieve unmanned remote control of mining excavation, transportation, monitoring and other links. Deng Zhongliang said, "5G networks have the advantage of low latency, coupled with high-precision positioning. When combined, people on the ground can achieve real-time monitoring of underground machinery, thus realizing the idea of a smart mine. For high-risk mining areas, production safety can be maximized, achieving zero accidents and zero casualties
In addition to mining and transportation, the "5G+Beidou" can also be used for surveying and mapping, unmanned agricultural machinery operation, unmanned aerial vehicle power inspection, intelligent elderly care, major event command and management, and other aspects.
According to data released by China Mobile, as of now, China has built 4400 high-precision positioning reference stations, forming the world's largest "5G+Beidou" high-precision positioning ground-based enhancement network. As Deng Zhongliang said, "In the future, the application potential of '5G+Beidou' will only be limited by our imagination
