China's C919 Large Aircraft Secures 200 New Orders, Total Orders Exceed 1450, Marking a Strong Rise!
Recently, China's domestically produced large aircraft, the C919, secured another 200 new orders, bringing the total number of orders to 1450, with a total value of 150 billion yuan. This news has once again garnered widespread attention, with foreign media expressing their admiration for the strong rise of China's domestically produced aircraft.
The last major order for the C919 was placed at the Singapore Airshow in mid-February this year when domestic airlines ordered 50 high-altitude versions of the C919, bringing the total number of orders to 1250. The latest 200 new orders mark another milestone in the development of the C919.
According to reports from "Daily Economic News", the 200 new orders include a purchase agreement signed by Southern Airlines and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), in which Southern Airlines will spend 71.6 billion yuan to purchase 100 C919 large aircraft, with deliveries scheduled between 2024 and 2031. This translates to an average price of 716 million yuan per C919, aligning with the market catalog price.
Apart from Southern Airlines, Air China also announced recently that it will purchase 100 C919 large aircraft for 78.1 billion yuan, with deliveries also expected between 2024 and 2031. The average price for Air China's C919 is approximately 781 million yuan, slightly higher than Southern Airlines' purchase. This price difference stems from the airlines' different needs in terms of aircraft configuration.
The C919, as China's first true domestically produced large aircraft, not only meets the demands of domestic routes but also has the capability to serve international routes. Compared to similar models from Boeing and Airbus, purchasing the C919 effectively reduces aircraft acquisition costs, minimizes queueing wait times, and eliminates additional expenses. The C919 undoubtedly holds significant appeal for airlines.
Southern Airlines, for instance, chose the C919 not only for its price advantage but also for its technical features, such as high-altitude airworthiness. Earlier this year, a high-altitude version of the C919 successfully underwent high-altitude test flights in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, earning high praise from industry experts. With the increasing number of C919 orders, its exceptional test performance has also gained recognition.
In fact, the technological level and manufacturing quality of the C919 have gradually gained global market recognition. As a medium and short-haul narrow-body passenger aircraft independently developed by COMAC, the C919 not only represents a significant breakthrough in China's aviation industry but also signifies a major achievement for China in high-tech and high-value-added manufacturing.
In terms of market demand, the International Air Transport Association estimates that over 44,000 new aircraft will be needed globally over the next 20 years, with the majority being medium and short-haul narrow-body aircraft. It is estimated that the Chinese market will account for over 20% of this demand in the future, offering a vast market space for the C919.
To further push the marketization of the C919, COMAC has not only strengthened cooperation with domestic and international airlines but also actively advanced the process of international airworthiness certification. In fact, the C919 has already received a type certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and is awaiting airworthiness certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Once it receives international airworthiness certification, the C919 will be able to enter more international markets, significantly boosting its market potential.
Furthermore, COMAC is actively expanding the C919 product line, including developing versions with different seat layouts and ranges to cater to the diverse needs of various airlines. For example, the company is developing longer-range versions of the C919 with larger passenger capacity and longer ranges to meet the market demands of long-distance routes and high passenger traffic.
In terms of technology and environmental protection, the C919 also exhibits notable advantages. It uses various composite materials and a new generation of engines, not only reducing the aircraft's weight and fuel consumption but also significantly reducing carbon emissions, aligning with the global trend of green aviation development.
As the C919 is progressively put into large-scale operation, it will not only bring unprecedented opportunities to China's aviation industry but also drive a transformation in the global aviation market landscape. The success of the C919 marks China's rise in high-end manufacturing and infuses new competitive vitality into the global aviation industry.
