[Global Network Technology Comprehensive Report] From June 20 to 21, the 2023 Alibaba Arhat Hall Digital Economy Annual Conference was held in Hangzhou. The theme of this year's conference is "Searching for the Future that is happening". Seven Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences winners, pioneers and leaders of global frontier disciplines, and representatives of the business community gathered by the West Lake to talk about global development issues such as artificial intelligence, sustainable development and climate resilience, and complex scientific development.
At the opening ceremony, Zhang Yong, Chairman and CEO of Alibaba Group and Alibaba Cloud Cloud Intelligent Group, on behalf of Alibaba, welcomed the guests and held talks and exchanges with several Nobel Prize winners on "opportunities and challenges of AI".
On the same day, Zhang Yong issued a full letter announcing that he would serve as the chairman and CEO of Alibaba Cloud Cloud Intelligent Group from September 10, focusing on the future development of Alibaba Cloud Cloud and continuously improving Alibaba Cloud Cloud's industrial competitiveness and global competitiveness.
Zhang Yong Talks with Nobel Prize Winners in Economics: Artificial Intelligence Will Be Everywhere
In the "Opportunities and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence" section, Zhang Yong talked to three Nobel laureates.
Zhang Yong believes that artificial intelligence will bring new development to the entire society, and generative artificial intelligence will also bring new growth opportunities to various industries, even leading to the emergence of some unimaginable new positions and industries. Just like at the beginning of the emergence of mobile internet, no imaginative person can accurately depict the current landscape.
Eric Maskin, the winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2007, believes that a new industry of "artificial intelligence consulting companies" will be born in the future to provide services for companies that cannot develop their own and need to use artificial intelligence technology.
In the opinion of Christopher A. Pissarides, the winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize, AI is profoundly changing the operation mode of enterprises and the working mode of employees, so it is very important to train employees in time.
Thomas J. Sargent, a 2011 Nobel laureate who has experienced nails, believes that digital tools such as nails will be key to improving productivity for businesses and employees in the era of artificial intelligence.
Regarding the future of artificial intelligence, Zhang Yong's view is: "Artificial intelligence will be everywhere, but I believe that humans have more intelligence than machines and can definitely find a mode of harmonious coexistence with artificial intelligence and machines
Arhat Hall released the "Ten Questions for the Future", asking the Nobel Prize winners about the times
"Artificial intelligence will destroy or create more jobs?" "Can virtual world make people happier?" "Digital technology will make the world more fragmented or more integrated?"... These are the "top ten issues related to the future" released by Arhat Hall in conjunction with the world's top brains this year.
Will the scale of enterprises become smaller or larger in the digital age? "This is not only an economic proposition, but also a proposition of future social forms; Is privacy protection hindering or promoting data flow? "There are some counterintuitive but thought-provoking issues... It can be said that these ten major issues are both practical and future, with academic and public implications.
In the view of 2001 Nobel laureate Michael Spence, human history has proven that technological advancements will not reduce the number of job positions, but may instead shorten working hours, "which will be a very important long-term trend.
Thomas Sargent believed that a common 'language' brings links. Digital technology uses a global language other than Chinese and English, which shares common values. If used well, it will make the world more integrated.
Understanding Platform Responsibility in the Digital Era
The Arhat Hall Digital Economy Annual Conference also released two reports, Understanding the Value and Responsibility of the Platform: Principles and Practice, and Data Economy: A New Stage of Digital Economy Development, which were jointly written by Arhat Hall and social scientists including several Nobel laureates.
The report "Understanding Platform Values and Responsibilities: Principles and Practices" states that unlike traditional ways of creating enterprise value, digital platforms build ecological communities, provide digital infrastructure and modular business capabilities, promote coordinated interaction and transactions among participants, and thus create enormous social value. This unique way of creating value also determines that the responsibilities undertaken by digital platforms are different from those of traditional enterprises. The report proposes four major principles: value principle, incentive principle, efficiency principle, and fairness principle.
The "Data Economy: A New Stage of Digital Economy Development" believes that the use of data should enable users to clearly understand their rights and understand the impact of data on themselves; At the same time, data users have the responsibility to provide reasonable solutions and effectively implement the rights they deserve; Promote hierarchical data management and clarify the rights of different data users; Encourage the development and application of privacy enhancement technologies such as encryption, Data anonymization and privacy computing, so as to promote the flow of trusted data.
